Short answer: the best mushroom coffee is the one that prints a dose for every ingredient you are paying for, puts real coffee in the cup, and carries the ingredients that have human trials at doses near the trials'. Ranked on that rule, with caffeine, what else is in the scoop and price per cup as tie-breakers: 1. Alphacino (every dose printed, 100 mg of caffeine with L-theanine, and the only cup with KSM-66 ashwagandha at its 600 mg trial dose), 2. BodyBrain (Tongkat Ali at a printed 300 mg, about 70 mg of caffeine), 3. Cuppa (KSM-66 at 250 mg in a milder Arabica cup, at $0.97 a cup), 4. Four Sigmatic Focus (real ground coffee with lion's mane, about $0.82 a cup), 5. Everyday Dose (a 45 mg latte with lion's mane, chaga and collagen), 6. RYZE (the best known, a 48 mg latte with six mushrooms at undisclosed doses), 7. MUD\WTR (a cacao drink, not a coffee). We make Alphacino, so read how we ranked before you trust the order, and check the label table yourself. Prices were re-read from the brands' own stores on 14 October 2026, except Everyday Dose, whose price is from our 16 September review12.

How we ranked the best mushroom coffee brands
Most "best mushroom coffee" lists rank on taste, packaging and what each brand says about itself. This one ranks on five things you can check from a label, in this order.
- Printed doses, compared with the trial dose. Every benefit claim in this category rests on a handful of human trials, and each trial used a dose. KSM-66 ashwagandha lowered stress scores and serum cortisol at 600 mg a day over 60 days7. Tongkat Ali cut cortisol exposure by 16% and raised testosterone status by 37% over four weeks in 63 moderately stressed adults8. Maca improved sexual desire from week 8 at 1,500 or 3,000 mg a day without changing testosterone9. Lion's mane improved cognitive scores in adults with mild cognitive impairment at 3 g a day over 16 weeks10. Cordyceps improved oxygen uptake after three weeks of a 4 g blend, and not after one11. A label that hides the dose cannot be checked against any of these, so it ranks below one that prints it.
- Caffeine, printed as a number. Caffeine is the only ingredient in any of these cups that changes how you feel and perform today: across 21 meta-analyses it improved endurance, strength, power and speed6, and from about 40 mg it improves alertness and attention12. A 45 mg cup and a 100 mg cup are different products.
- What else is in the scoop. Collagen, coconut milk powder, MCT oil and sweeteners turn a coffee into a latte. That is fine if you want a latte; it matters if you drink it black, fasted or for the coffee.
- Whether caffeine comes with L-theanine. The pairing gave faster reaction times, better attention and lower tiredness and headache ratings against placebo in controlled trials45. It is cheap to include, so its absence tells you something.
- Price per serving, at the plain 30-serving price, so subscriptions and starter kits do not distort it.
What we did not rank on: taste, which depends on the coffee base and is covered below, and each brand's own health claims, since the trials are the same for everyone and only the doses differ.

Mushroom coffee brands compared: the label table
Labels as read in our reviews (dates in each review); prices re-read from each brand's own store on 14 October 20262. "Not printed" means the brand gives a blend weight or nothing, not a figure per ingredient.
| Brand | Coffee base | Caffeine | Mushrooms | Other actives | Also in the scoop | 30 servings |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alphacino | Robusta instant | 100 mg | Lion's mane fruiting-body extract, 500 mg | KSM-66 ashwagandha 600 mg, black maca 4:1 224 mg, L-theanine 100 mg | S7 blend 50 mg, vitamin D; no creamer or sweetener | $49.97, $1.67 a cup |
| BodyBrain | Freeze-dried Colombian instant | About 70 mg | Lion's mane 600 mg | Tongkat Ali 10:1 300 mg, ashwagandha extract 400 mg (unbranded), L-theanine 200 mg | No creamer | $44.99, $1.50 a cup |
| Cuppa | Arabica instant | About 70 mg | Lion's mane and cordyceps 8:1, 250 mg together | KSM-66 ashwagandha 250 mg, L-theanine 100 mg | MCT and prebiotic fibre | $29, $0.97 a cup |
| Four Sigmatic Focus | Organic ground coffee, 340 g bag | A regular brewed cup; not printed | Lion's mane, plus chaga in the dark roast; dose not printed | None | Nothing else; it is coffee | $20 a bag, about $0.82 a cup at 14 g |
| Everyday Dose | Cold brew coffee extract | 45 mg Mild, 90 mg Medium | Lion's mane and chaga fruiting body, 1,500 mg together | L-theanine 150 mg | Collagen 4 g | $45, $1.50 a cup (read 16 Sep) |
| RYZE | Organic instant Arabica | 48 mg medium, 80 to 90 mg dark | Six mushrooms; amounts not printed | None | Coconut milk powder, MCT oil, fibre | $45, $1.50 a cup ($27 for a dark roast listing) |
| MUD\WTR :rise | Cacao, not coffee | A fraction of a coffee; not printed | Lion's mane, chaga, cordyceps, reishi; amounts not printed | None | Cacao, chai spices | $50, $1.67 a cup |
Two patterns stand out before any ranking. Only three of the seven carry an adaptogen with human trials behind it (Alphacino, BodyBrain, Cuppa), and those three print every active dose. And price is not where they differ much: every instant here costs $0.90 to $1.67 a cup. What differs is what the money buys.
The 7 best mushroom coffees, ranked
1. Alphacino: best overall
What is in it. One scoop is 100 mg of caffeine from robusta coffee, 100 mg of L-theanine, 600 mg of KSM-66 organic ashwagandha root extract, 500 mg of HericiumPrime lion's mane fruiting-body extract, 224 mg of black maca 4:1 extract, 50 mg of the S7 plant blend and vitamin D. No creamer or sweetener, 10 calories1.
Against the trials. The ashwagandha is the 600 mg a day from the 60-day stress trial7; no other coffee here reaches it. The caffeine and theanine sit inside the tested range45. The maca is about 900 mg of root equivalent against a 1,500 to 3,000 mg trial dose9, and the lion's mane is a sixth of the 3 g trial weight10, true of every coffee on this list, which is why those two are judged in months, not days.
Best for. Anyone who wants a real 100 mg cup with the ingredient that has the strongest trial at its full dose. Watch out for: it is a robusta instant, so it tastes like strong black coffee, not a latte. $49.97 for 30, with a 60-day money-back guarantee. Full label on the product page.
2. BodyBrain: best if you want Tongkat Ali
What is in it. A sachet of freeze-dried Colombian coffee at about 70 mg of caffeine, with 300 mg of Tongkat Ali 10:1 extract, 400 mg of an unbranded ashwagandha extract, 600 mg of lion's mane and 200 mg of L-theanine, every dose printed.
Against the trials. The Tongkat Ali dose is printed and the trial behind it is real but small: 63 adults for four weeks8. The ashwagandha has no brand or standardisation printed, so it cannot be matched to the KSM-66 trials. The theanine is generous against a light caffeine dose, which makes a calm cup rather than a sharp one.
Best for. People who specifically want Tongkat Ali in the morning cup. Watch out for: 70 mg is a mild coffee. $44.99 for 30. Our BodyBrain review reads the label line by line.
3. Cuppa: best value with KSM-66
What is in it. Arabica instant at about 70 mg of caffeine, 250 mg of KSM-66 ashwagandha, 250 mg of 8:1 lion's mane and cordyceps extracts together, 100 mg of L-theanine, and MCT with a prebiotic fibre.
Against the trials. The right ashwagandha extract at less than half the stress-trial dose: 250 mg against 6007. The 8:1 mushroom extract is a concentrated form, but 250 mg of it is still well short of the 3 to 4 g the lion's mane and cordyceps trials used1011. The theanine pairing is there.
Best for. An Arabica taste and some KSM-66 for less: $29 for 30 on 14 October, about $0.97 a cup. Watch out for: the MCT makes it a light latte, and the ashwagandha is a half measure. Our Cuppa review explains the 8:1 label maths.
4. Four Sigmatic Focus: best real ground coffee, best price per cup
What is in it. Organic ground coffee in a 340 g bag with lion's mane, and chaga in the dark roast. It brews like coffee because it is coffee, with a regular cup's caffeine. The mushroom dose per serving is not printed.
Against the trials. No adaptogen, and no lion's mane figure to compare with the 3 g trial weight10. It does have a full caffeine dose, the one ingredient with a same-day effect6.
Best for. People who want to keep brewing real coffee and are curious about lion's mane. About $0.82 a cup, the cheapest here. Watch out for: you are paying for a mushroom whose dose you cannot see. Our Four Sigmatic comparison has the details.
5. Everyday Dose: best low-caffeine latte
What is in it. Cold brew coffee extract at 45 mg of caffeine (90 mg in the Medium blend), 1,500 mg of lion's mane and chaga fruiting body together, 4 g of collagen and 150 mg of L-theanine.
Against the trials. The most generous mushroom figure on the list, though it is one weight for two species. The theanine is at the top of the tested range against caffeine at the bottom of it5. The collagen is protein, which ends a fast; see does mushroom coffee break a fast.
Best for. Cutting caffeine hard while keeping a creamy morning drink. Watch out for: 45 mg is near the bottom of the range where caffeine's alertness effects show12. $45 for 30. Our Everyday Dose review has the full label.
6. RYZE: the best known, and the least specific
What is in it. Organic instant Arabica at 48 mg of caffeine in the medium roast (80 to 90 mg in the dark), six mushrooms (lion's mane, cordyceps, reishi, turkey tail, shiitake, king trumpet) with no amount per species, coconut milk powder, MCT oil and a fibre blend.
Against the trials. Six mushrooms in one scoop means each is a fraction of a gram against trial weights of 3 to 4 g1011, and the split is not printed. No theanine, no adaptogen. It contains reishi, which has a published case of liver injury from a powdered product13.
Best for. Stepping down from strong coffee to a mild, creamy cup. Watch out for: 48 mg feels like a downgrade if you drink it for the coffee. $45 for 30; a dark roast listing was $27 on 14 October. Our RYZE review has the label and the trial table.
7. MUD\WTR :rise: the best coffee alternative, which is not a coffee
What is in it. Cacao and chai spices with lion's mane, chaga, cordyceps and reishi; mushroom amounts and caffeine are not printed as numbers.
Against the trials. Too little caffeine for the alertness and exercise evidence to apply126, no adaptogen, no printed mushroom dose. It contains chaga, which is high in oxalate and has a published case of kidney damage after months of heavy use14.
Best for. Evenings, or anyone quitting caffeine. Watch out for: it is a spiced cacao drink, at $50 for 30.

Best mushroom coffee for men, focus, energy, weight loss and taste
Best mushroom coffee for men
Alphacino first and BodyBrain second, for the same reason as the overall ranking: they carry the adaptogens with men's trials at printed doses. KSM-66 at 600 mg is the stress-and-cortisol dose7; a different ashwagandha extract raised testosterone 14.7% more than placebo in men aged 40 to 70 over eight weeks, without changing how tired or energetic they felt15; Tongkat Ali is the BodyBrain case8. No mushroom has a testosterone trial. The evidence for men, ranked, is in mushroom coffee benefits for men, and the reasoning for men past 40 in mushroom coffee for men over 40.
Best mushroom coffee for focus
The same-day focus effect comes from caffeine with L-theanine, not from the mushrooms45. Alphacino, Cuppa, BodyBrain and Everyday Dose carry the pairing; RYZE and Four Sigmatic do not. Lion's mane is the slow part, over months. The full comparison is in the best mushroom coffee for focus.
Best mushroom coffee for energy
Energy in a cup is caffeine, so the full-caffeine cups win: Alphacino at 100 mg and Four Sigmatic's brewed cup. The half-caffeine latte blends trade energy for calm. Brand by brand figures are in how much caffeine is in mushroom coffee and the energy picks in the best mushroom coffee for energy.
Best mushroom coffee for weight loss
No mushroom coffee causes weight loss, and none of these brands has a weight-loss trial. What matters is what you add: in three large cohorts, each extra cup of unsweetened coffee went with slightly less weight gain over four years, and adding sugar counteracted it16. So the best picks are the black, unsweetened cups at about 10 to 15 calories: Alphacino, Four Sigmatic and Cuppa. The evidence is in does mushroom coffee help you lose weight.
Best tasting mushroom coffee
Taste follows the coffee base more than the mushrooms. If you want it to taste like coffee, choose real ground coffee (Four Sigmatic) or a full-strength instant (Alphacino's robusta is the bolder, more bitter option). If you want it smooth and creamy, the latte blends (RYZE, Everyday Dose) taste mostly of their coconut milk or collagen. Blends with several mushrooms, especially reishi, run earthier. More in what mushroom coffee tastes like, and how to improve any of them in how to make mushroom coffee taste good.
Healthiest mushroom coffee
The healthiest is the one with no sugar, a caffeine figure you can plan around, printed doses, and no mushroom you would need to research for safety. Chaga carries an oxalate caution and reishi a liver one1413; Alphacino, BodyBrain, Cuppa and Four Sigmatic Focus (medium roast) contain neither. Keep total caffeine under 400 mg a day17, and see is mushroom coffee good for you and mushroom coffee side effects.
Best low-caffeine mushroom coffee
Everyday Dose Mild (45 mg), RYZE medium roast (48 mg) and MUD\WTR (a fraction of a coffee). Even a normal cup should be finished at least 8.8 hours before bed to protect sleep18; the timing guide is the best time to drink mushroom coffee.
What the ingredients actually did in trials
| Ingredient | Trial | Result | Dose and length | Cups at or near the dose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KSM-66 ashwagandha | 64 adults with chronic stress7 | Stress scores and serum cortisol lower than placebo | 300 mg twice a day, 60 days | Alphacino (600 mg); Cuppa at 250 mg falls short |
| Ashwagandha (a different extract) | Overweight men aged 40 to 7015 | Testosterone up 14.7% more than placebo; no difference in fatigue or vigour | 8 weeks | None uses this extract |
| Tongkat Ali | 63 moderately stressed adults8 | Cortisol exposure down 16%, testosterone status up 37%; tension, anger and confusion scores down | Standardised root extract, 4 weeks | BodyBrain (300 mg of 10:1) |
| Maca | Men aged 21 to 569 | Sexual desire up from week 8; testosterone unchanged | 1,500 or 3,000 mg a day, 12 weeks | None; Alphacino's 224 mg of 4:1 is about 900 mg of root |
| Lion's mane | Adults with mild cognitive impairment10 | Cognitive scores above placebo from week 8 | 3 g a day, 16 weeks | None reach it; Everyday Dose's 1,500 mg is a two-mushroom total |
| Cordyceps | Young adults11 | Oxygen uptake up after 3 weeks, not after 1 | 4 g a day of a blend | None; Cuppa and RYZE carry fractions of a gram |
| Caffeine | 21 meta-analyses6 | Better endurance, strength, power and speed | Clearest from about 200 mg12 | The full-caffeine cups get closest |
| Caffeine with L-theanine | Controlled trials in healthy adults4519 | Faster reactions, better attention, less tiredness than placebo | 40 to 150 mg caffeine with 97 to 250 mg theanine | Alphacino, Cuppa, BodyBrain, Everyday Dose |
The honest summary: the strongest evidence in this category belongs to caffeine, the theanine pairing and two adaptogens, ashwagandha and Tongkat Ali. Every mushroom is under its trial weight in every coffee sold, ours included, so pay for the coffee and the adaptogen, and treat the mushroom as a bonus.
What to avoid when you buy mushroom coffee
- A blend with no doses. If the label gives one weight for six mushrooms, or none, you cannot check it against any trial. Four of the seven here have at least one unprinted dose.
- "Enhancement" coffees with effects in 30 minutes. No botanical works on that clock; a drug does. Between 2007 and 2016 the FDA flagged 776 supplements containing hidden pharmaceutical ingredients, and 353 of them, 45.5%, were sold for sexual enhancement20. None of the seven brands here is in that category; the warning signs are in male vitality coffee.
- Buying a latte when you wanted a coffee. Collagen, coconut milk and MCT change what the cup is: more calories, a broken fast and usually less caffeine. Read the "also in the scoop" column before the mushroom column.
Price per cup, and what you get for it
| Brand | Per cup | Caffeine per cup | An adaptogen at a printed dose? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Four Sigmatic Focus | About $0.82 | A full brewed cup | No |
| Cuppa | $0.97 | About 70 mg | KSM-66 at 250 mg, under the trial dose |
| BodyBrain | $1.50 | About 70 mg | Tongkat Ali 300 mg |
| Everyday Dose | $1.50 | 45 mg (Mild) | No |
| RYZE | $1.50 ($0.90 for the dark roast listing) | 48 mg (medium), 80 to 90 mg (dark) | No |
| Alphacino | $1.67 | 100 mg | KSM-66 at the full 600 mg |
| MUD\WTR | $1.67 | A fraction of a coffee | No |

Where Alphacino fits, and where it does not
We put our own cup first, so here is the case against it as well as for it. For: it is the only cup with an adaptogen at its full trial dose, it prints every figure, it is a real 100 mg coffee with the theanine pairing, it is black, and the 60-day guarantee matches the length of the trial you are testing it against. Against: the lion's mane and maca are under their trial doses, as in every coffee; the S7 blend has one manufacturer study behind it; it is robusta instant, which some people find harsh next to an Arabica; and it costs 17 cents a cup more than BodyBrain or RYZE and 70 cents more than Cuppa. If you want Tongkat Ali, buy BodyBrain. If you want a latte, buy Everyday Dose or RYZE. If you want the cheapest cup, buy Four Sigmatic or Cuppa. If you want a real cup of coffee with the ashwagandha dose that was actually trialled, this is the one; how much to drink is in how much mushroom coffee you can drink a day, and lion's mane on its own in lion's mane coffee.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best mushroom coffee?
On printed doses against trial doses, Alphacino, the only cup with KSM-66 ashwagandha at its 600 mg trial dose, in a real 100 mg coffee with L-theanine and every ingredient listed. BodyBrain is the pick for Tongkat Ali, Four Sigmatic Focus for ground coffee and the lowest price, and Everyday Dose or RYZE for a low-caffeine latte. We make Alphacino.
What are the best mushroom coffee brands?
The brands that print a dose for every ingredient: Alphacino, BodyBrain and Cuppa. Four Sigmatic is the best-known real ground coffee with lion's mane. Everyday Dose and RYZE are popular latte-style blends with lower caffeine, and MUD\WTR is a cacao drink rather than a coffee.
What is the best mushroom coffee for men?
Alphacino, for KSM-66 ashwagandha at 600 mg in a 100 mg coffee, or BodyBrain if Tongkat Ali is the herb you want. No mushroom has a testosterone trial; the men's evidence belongs to those two adaptogens.
What is the best tasting mushroom coffee?
If you want it to taste like coffee, real ground coffee such as Four Sigmatic Focus, or a full-strength instant such as Alphacino. If you want it smooth and creamy, the latte blends, RYZE and Everyday Dose, which taste mostly of their coconut milk or collagen.
What is the healthiest mushroom coffee?
One with no sugar, a printed caffeine figure, printed doses, and no chaga or reishi if you have kidney or liver concerns. Alphacino, BodyBrain, Cuppa and Four Sigmatic Focus medium roast contain neither of those two mushrooms.
Which mushroom coffee is best for weight loss?
None causes weight loss. Choose a black, unsweetened cup, since added sugar counteracted coffee's small weight benefit in large cohort studies. Alphacino, Four Sigmatic and Cuppa are 15 calories or less a cup without additions.
Which mushroom coffee has the most caffeine?
Four Sigmatic Focus, a full brewed cup, then Alphacino at 100 mg, and RYZE dark roast at 80 to 90 mg. The lowest are Everyday Dose Mild at 45 mg, RYZE medium at 48 mg and MUD\WTR at a fraction of a coffee.
Is mushroom coffee worth it?
Only if the cup carries an ingredient with a human trial at a dose near the trial's, plus real caffeine. Ashwagandha and Tongkat Ali qualify in three of the seven here. The mushrooms are under their trial weights in every coffee sold, so treat them as a bonus.
